Batak Reaction Wall – TV Filming
Several months ago we hired our Batak Reaction Game to ITV for filming the brand new entertainment series It’s not Rocket Science. We couldn’t wait to see the Batak machine in all its glory on prime time television.
On Tuesday we were finally able to watch the Batak Wall in action being used by some fab athletes. Players used the Reaction Machine to test their reaction times but there was a little bit more to this Batak challenge.
Unknown to the athletes they would be helping to demonstrate the placebo effect in an experiment using the Batak Reaction Game. The experiment carried out by Dr Jeremy Howik would test the reaction times of the athletes before and after the placebo. The placebo in this experiment was a red and white pill which athletes were told was a powerful stimulant but in reality it had no intrinsic physiological properties. It was just a placebo.
The athletes would test their reactions on the Batak twice, once before taking the placebo and again after. To ensure the test was fair and to check the reaction times on the Batak machine did not increase just because they had played the game previously a control group also tested their reactions on the game twice.
The Results Were Astounding
The control group (no placebo) increased their reactions by an average of 3.6%, which is an average of 1 hit per 30 seconds game on the Batak machine.
However, the placebo group increased their reactions by an average of 12.7% which is an average of 3.5 hits per 30 seconds game on the Batak machine. The increased reaction times are astounding and demonstrate the effect a placebo can provide, not just on a Batak Game.
The results of the experiment were intriguing and suggest placebos do work and the power of suggestion can increase reaction times.
Batak Machine Hire
The Batak was a fantastic activity to demonstrate the Placebo Effect. If you would like to test your own reactions on our Batak Reaction Game get in contact and you can hire the reaction machine, unfortunately we don’t provide placebos!
Activities for Hire
Xtreme Vortex are pleased to announce that our product range is growing again for 2016! After searching for something a little different (as we always do) we wanted to provide our clients with some new fun and interactive games. We think you will like what we have found.
We have added some fantastic indoor activities and games perfect for events at smaller venues and evening entertainment.
We have many exciting new developments to announce throughout 2016 but below are the activities we have already announced:

These new activities and games can be branded for your event making them perfect for Exhibitions, Conferences, Product Launches, Experiential/Event Marketing and many more.
Trade Show Attraction at Excel, London
It is almost unbelievable how quickly time is passing by and International Confex has closed its doors for another year. We attended International Confex 2013 and had a great show, with lots of interesting visitors to our stand which you will hear all about later on!
This year we decided to make our stand interactive and with only a limited amount of space available we decided to use one of our great indoor activities, the Batak Reaction Game. We wanted to offer all our visitors the chance to experience and play the reaction game and challenge their reactions to see what score they could achieve while experiencing one of the great products we provide for hire.
The Batak reaction game is a perfect for trade stand attraction and also perfect for exhibitions as it gets visitors interacting with your stand and really gets you noticed, which is why we use the Batak reaction game on our own trade stands. Batak can be branded with a great background to promote your product or service so not only is it perfect for visitor interaction it is perfect for getting your message across. As you can see from the photos, the branding on the Batak really stands out.
We had a large number of visitors to our stand and it was absolutely lovely speaking to everyone who stopped by. Our visitors were interested in a variety of events from family fun days, corporate entertainment to team building and away days. We are very excited that our Batak reaction game was a great crowd puller for our stand and we saw some great scores too! Among our visitors were some familiar faces that you may recognise and of course they could not resist trying their hand at the Batak!
Mr T and Austin Powers dropped by our stand and looked very intrigued by the reaction game and they could not resist having a go. Groovy Baby!! We even had the almighty Storm Troopers come to visit and what a buzz this created! I must admit I have never seen a Storm Trooper playing Batak before but there is always a first time for everything! You would think they have lightening reactions but it seems like they don’t! So on a final note, if you every have a run in with a Storm Trooper, get him to play Batak and I am sure you will win!
If you are intersed in interested in finding out more about our Batak reaction game or any other activities, please contact us and we will be able to provide you with a quote.

SBS Winners Event – 30/03/12
March 2012 was an incredible month for the owners of Xtreme Vortex who not only won the TIPE Operator of the Year award, but were also recognised by Dragons Den star Theo Paphitis as one of his Small Business Sunday (#SBS) winners. It was a real honour to be picked by Theo back in May 2011, but it was such an amazing opportunity to meet Theo in person, along with other SBS winners at the first event of its kind.
Small Business Sunday, shortened to the hashtag #SBS on Twitter, was created by Theo Paphitis in October 2010. Theo is best known for his star role in TV’s Dragons Den. He is the chairman of Ryman Stationary plus Boux Avenue and joint owner of Red Letter Days.
Theo Paphitis, along with the support of Rymans the Stationers hosted the event at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham for all SBS winners. This was a fantastic opportunity to meet other SBS winners along with an inspirational talk from Theo and Kypros Kyprianou, the Chief Exec of Ryman. Many people recognise Theo from his time on Dragons Den, but the multi-million pound dragon has built up his empire of businesses from scratch. Theo is truly inspirational and uses his own personal time to support and help small businesses through SBS. He has a genuine passion for helping small businesses and he still clearly remembers that point when you are trying to grow a business, working long hours, grafting hard and wondering will it all pay off?
Xtreme Vortex are so proud of this opportunity and it has only fuelled our enthusiasm for providing the best activities and service to the events industry. Following the event, a few sleepless nights have occurred where the brains of owners Andy and Donna were fuelled with inspiration and motivation for exciting new projects for Xtreme Vortex. Xtreme Vortex cannot thank Theo Paphitis and his team enough for such an amazing event!
We were so excited about meeting Theo Paphitis we released press releases to various papers and magazines. We have appeared in the Bexley Times and most recently in the Newsshopper. Check out the Newsshopper website for coverage of this story.
March 2012 has been an incredible Month for Xtreme Vortex. Not only did we get the change to meet Theo Paphitis as winners of Small Business Sunday (#SBS) but we were also recognised by The Inflatable Play Enterprise (TIPE) as Operator of the Year. Xtreme Vortex is extremely proud to win this award as we pride ourself on offering a service that is second to none. It is really great to see that our values and ideas for business are being recognised and awarded by a body such as TIPE. We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to TIPE for this award.
March 2012 has been a very busy month so far. We attended International Confex and International Outdoor Event Expo (IOEX) at London’s Excel for three days. This was a fun packed three days for us to meet so many people in the event industry. Attending International Confex 2012 gave us the opportunity to introduce people to our new activities which we have introduced for 2012 such as our Under Pressure Game and Giant Scalextric Racing Track. It was a great opportunity to talk to our current clients and also meet new clients to discuss their requirements for their events and answer any questions they had. The response from International Confex has certainly kept us busy over the last couple of weeks!
We would like to thank Andi B Illustration for all of the artwork designs for our trade show which certainly drew in the crowds!
